How Often Should Your Business Post on Social Media?

Asked by every single business owner we've ever sat down with. Here's the honest answer.

There's no magic number. Anyone who tells you "post exactly three times a week" is reading from someone else's playbook, and probably one written for a different country, a different industry, and an algorithm from two years ago.

What we can tell you, after managing accounts for pubs, gyms, hotels, salons and car dealerships all over Ireland, is how to find your number. It's less complicated than you'd think.

Consistency beats volume. Every time.

Two good posts a week, every week, for a year will do more for your business than ten posts in January followed by silence until Easter. The platforms reward accounts that show up reliably, and so do customers. People notice when a business goes quiet. Some of them quietly wonder if you've closed.

So before you ask "how often should I post?", ask a harder question: "what can I actually sustain?" Be brutally honest. If the answer is twice a week, brilliant. Commit to twice a week and never miss.

The real ceiling is content, not time

Most businesses don't run out of time to post. They run out of things to say. That's why the accounts that win tend to batch their content: one proper shoot can carry a month of posts if it's planned right.

A single afternoon in a bar, a gym or on a forecourt produces walk-throughs, detail shots, staff moments, customer-facing reels and stories. Shot once, published over weeks. That's how busy businesses stay visible without someone standing there filming every day.

Reels carry further than posts. Plan for that.

Static posts mostly reach people who already follow you. Short-form video reaches people who don't. If your goal is growth rather than just keeping the lights on, your weekly mix needs at least one reel in it. Not a slideshow with music over it. An actual video.

A starting point that works for most Irish businesses

  • One reel a week. This is your reach engine. Protect it.
  • One or two feed posts a week. Product, people, results, behind the scenes.
  • Stories whenever something's happening. Low effort, keeps you in the daily scroll.

That's a floor, not a ceiling. Once that rhythm feels easy, add more. If it never feels easy, that's usually the point where businesses hand it to someone like us, and honestly, that's the right instinct. Your time is better spent running the business.

One last thing

Don't post just to post. A bad photo with no caption does more harm than a quiet day. If you're choosing between filler and nothing, choose nothing, and spend the time planning your next proper piece of content instead.

Want a posting rhythm you don't have to think about?

We plan, shoot and publish for businesses across Ireland so the feed stays full while you stay on the floor.
